Are you over the age of 65? If yes you face a risk of experiencing complications if you catch the flu. Every year around 5 to 20 percent of Americans get the flu leading to over 200,000 hospitalizations due to flu related issues. The flu can result in sickness. In some instances even death if not treated promptly. Ensure you take precautions to safeguard yourself during this flu season and recognize the warning signs.

Were you aware?

The flu can sometimes mimic infections making it challenging to differentiate from common colds or similar lower respiratory tract infections, like bronchitis. It's crucial to distinguish between them and know when it's essential to seek help.

Symptoms of the flu include muscle aches, fever, chills, and general discomfort. Pneumonia, dehydration, and worsening chronic conditions, such as asthma and emphysema, are telltale signs you may have the flu. Colds, on the other hand, target the nose and throat area, with symptoms typically subsiding with the use of over-the-counter cold medicines.

If you’re over the age of 65 and believe you have come down with the flu, you should see your doctor immediately. They may prescribe antiviral medications, or in severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary.
